Ann-Margret and Al Hirt – My Baby Just Cares for Me

In October of 1960 both Ann-Margret and Al Hirt were booked into the Dunes Hotel Lounge in Las Vegas, NV.  This engagement was before A-M had been formerly discovered by George Burns and well before Al recorded his signature sound at RCA Victor.

After that engagement Ann-Margret with her Suttle Tones went back to North Western University and Al Hirt went back to New Orleans.  Neither knowing that one day they’d be working together, rather than just filling spots while the other was resting between sets in a smokey Las Vegas lounge. We all have to start somewhere.  It’s just funny how even talent swings full circle and when it’s meant to be…even when it didn’t actually happen the first time…it gets to happen the second time around.

I figured I’d include part two of a chance meeting between A-M and Al Hirt.  This time the engagement was not Las Vegas, but Hollywood, CA…in RCA Victor’s Music center of the world.  This time they actually performed together.  Mixing like magic they did the full length album “The Beauty and The Beard”.  Here you can hear Al sing for the first time on the pop standard “My Baby Just Cares for Me”, while Ann-Margret backs him up following with her sultry vocals.  Really if a woman sang like that to me I’d surely want to keep her around…no man in his right mind would let her get away with out a fight.

I hope you enjoy the song stylings of the sex kitten and the trumpet player.  All I have to say is it’s AH A-M.  :)
